How things get graded

The grade is not an opinion about quality. It answers whether a transcript can reach an AI agent unattended. A beautifully built recorder that traps its output in a phone app gets a low grade here and might still be the right purchase for someone else.

Best in class requires all five

  1. Unattended. The transcript leaves the vendor with no human action, by webhook push or a documented pull API an agent can schedule.
  2. Agent-reachable without custom glue. An MCP server, or an API with authentication an agent can hold and documentation it can follow.
  3. Full payload. The actual transcript, not only a summary.
  4. No enterprise gate. Reachable on a plan an individual can buy.
  5. Exit. Your history can be pulled out whole.

Strong meets four of five. Viable means a real path exists and needs plumbing or a tier upgrade. Falls short means capture works and handoff does not. Not applicable means it was never a capture pipeline.

Five rules that decide most questions

  1. Ask what phone you carry before buying anything. Pixel Recorder and Samsung Galaxy AI transcribe on-device, free, already installed.

  3. Any device that falls short becomes a real pipeline when its audio files post to a transcription API, or to a local model if the audio must stay on your machine.
  4. Conference-room hardware and smart glasses are not transcript sources. They improve what a meeting bot hears.
  5. Pairing is close to a non-question. MCP is the standard, so a capture tool with an MCP server works with any MCP-capable agent. Choose the device on its delivery path and the agent on how you work.

What the labels mean

Deep means web-verified by hand. Light means the category answer already decides it, so per-device research would change nothing. Source only means the claim came from a starting list and has not been checked. Open question names the one specific thing that would settle a row.

Submit a tool we missed

This register started from a list that turned out to contain products that do not exist. Corrections are as welcome as additions.

Our cadence, stated plainly. Submissions publish immediately, badged as unverified. We clear a batch of ten on a weekly sweep and promote the real ones into the graded register. We do not promise to review every submission on arrival, because that is a promise that breaks.
