AI Amplifies

AI Amplifies

Practical AI tools, tips, and commentary out of real work, play, and curiosity

Verified reference material, apps, decision tools, and a few things that just seemed fun. For people using AI to run a business, to run a life, or because they got curious and fell down a hole.

Everything here started as something we needed ourselves. Some of it got finished properly enough to hand to somebody else. Some of it is janky. We do not take ourselves or this topic too seriously. Our whole life is an experiment and this is no different.

Built by actual people. Not marketers, not an unattended AI, not faceless. When we do not know something, we say so.

AI Capture Register

128 recording devices, apps, and AI agents graded on one question: does audio reach an AI with zero manual steps? Includes two products that turned out not to exist, and the reason a household name only scores Viable.

Which device should I buy?

Four questions, one answer. A guided path through the five deciding rules that hands back a single recommendation instead of a comparison table you have to read twice. If the honest answer is the phone already in your pocket, it says so.

More, as we need them

Calculators, checklists, reference tables. Whatever comes out of client work or a late-night rabbit hole and survives our own use gets published here.

How we work

Reference material is only worth something when you can check it. These are the rules we hold ourselves to, in public, so you can hold us to them too.

  1. No arbitrary affiliate links. If there is a tool we believe in and actually use, we may include an affiliate link to help defray the cost of our time on these things. It will always be disclosed, and it will always sit next to a naked non-affiliate link so supporting us stays your choice. Right now there are none at all.
  2. Published criteria. Every grade names the standard it was measured against. Argue with the standard, not just the conclusion.
  3. Unverified stays labeled unverified. Research has a cost and we do not pretend otherwise. Each entry states how deeply it was checked, and unsettled entries name the specific thing that would settle them. Whether we go dig depends largely on our mood and the weight of the week.
  4. Corrections beat consistency. Our own first pass on the Capture Register contained products that do not exist. We found them, fixed them, and left the wrong entries visible as negative results so nobody else wastes an afternoon chasing some model's hallucination.
  5. A cadence, not a promise. Tools that accept submissions publish immediately, badged unverified. We clear a batch weekly. Usually. Come on, it is free. We do not claim to review everything on arrival, because we have work to do and lives to live and fairly often we are just lazy. Treat unverified as exactly that.

Who is behind this

AI Amplifies is an experimental funland from Dead Simple Digital, a sidetrack that turned into a think tank and ideation lab, run by Just Sturgis, some guy who spent four decades in spa and wellness. Seriously? Seriously.

Forty years running businesses in an industry with almost nothing to do with tech matters here for exactly one reason: everything published on this site breaks his own business long before it gets anywhere near yours.

Decades in creative work also comes with unsatiable curiosity. Inspiration is everywhere. Experiments are food and water. Mistakes are oxygen. The Capture Register exists because people kept asking what AI recording device he said he used, and because we needed to know which recorder would actually feed our own transcript pipeline. Every comparison we could find measured battery life, or whose affiliate video ranked best. So we scratched our own itch.

That was the first one. At this point we may as well have poison ivy. More to come.

If a tool here saves you an afternoon, that is the whole point.

Tell us what is missing

We are not infallible. We get things wrong, and sometimes bad information lands on our desk and we repeat it. We are not too proud to fix it. Most of what we publish is a living thing.
